Shamoonjumpclaimer.com - Digital Postcards via Mobile Phones

April 21, 2008 – 2:16 pm

For those of us interested in traveling, especially going to many different places in one trip, jumpclaimer.com is a godsend.  By sending a quick little SMS message to their service with the name of the town that you’re in or near, jumpclaimer will let your friends and family know where you are and where you’ve been.  They find your location on a Google Map so that your loved ones can follow you on your journey.  The website is apparently not taking new registrations due to crazy demand (although their Alexa and Quantcast ratings beg to differ).  According to the Wayback Machine, they’ve been accepting new travelers as late as June of 2007.  I’m not entirely sure what happened after that, but I hope that they make a come back.

There are all sorts of features that can be added onto this service to make it more useful like restaurant guides, coupons for travelers, local tips and more.

What’s the concept?

Giving travelers a way to plot where they are and where they’ve been using the ubiquity of the cell phone and SMS messaging.

Why should you care?

If you’re a traveler or just a mom that wants to know where her son is on his Eurotrip, this service can be extremely useful.

How do they make money?

Not sure yet.

Will this company last 5 years?

Seeing as how they seemed to have abandoned registrations and development, I don’t think so.  This is a great opportunity for someone else to come in and take up where they left off however.

  2. I’m not sure how much I like this concept. It is bascially sending a blanket text message to a handful of people. Most cell phones allow you to group contacts, so if you wanted to send the name of the town you are stayin in to your whole family why use jumpclaimer? You can easy just sms it yourself..
