ShamoonZipgraphs.com - Get Immediate, Extensive Information on Any US ZIP Code

April 27, 2008 – 9:52 am

Colorful GraphZipgraphs.com is a great front end for a lot of boring data.  It appears to take U.S. Census data and makes it pretty and easy to read.  There is A LOT of data to sift through and if I had to look at all of that raw data, I would probably gouge my eyes out with one hand, while pulling my hair out with the other.  Thank you SO MUCH, you wonderful Zipgraphs.com people!

So here’s how it works.  You can type in ANY U.S. zip code and you’ll get a TON of information about that locale.  You’ll get information about the income levels, the population, the location, education levels, life style elements.  It’s absolutely wonderful.  Of course, there is a Google map as well so that you can actually see the zip code in question.

They also have an absolutely stunning iPhone version so you can do research on the go.  This is a GREAT resource for people interested in real estate or local markets.  A lot of companies have a local or regional focus and they can use Zipgraphs to collect some basic demographic data.

What’s the concept?

Great interface for looking at U.S. Census data

Why should you care?

Because it’s freaking cool!

How do they make money?

They don’t… yet.

Will this company last 5 years?

As it is right now, it’s not actually a “company” per se, more of a great concept.  They’ll have to be a company before that question can be answered.

Suggestions for improvements?

Add more data mining tools.  You guys did a GREAT job with the interface as it is, but if there were search capabilities, then it would be top shelf stuff.
