ThinkFree.Com - Boundless
May 8, 2008 – 8:45 am
ThinkFree.Com is an online office suite designed to be an inexpensive, and multi-purpose alternative program like Microsoft Office. However, Microsoft Office 2007 XML files are actually compatible, which makes it a contender for a lot of other word processors and office suites out there. ThinkFree also offers its own software as well, however, you don’t need the software to use ThinkFree online; it operates inside the browser, which automatically shuts out competition for other office websites, like ODesk.Com, for example, which requires multiple downloads before you can use it properly.
However, on the other hand, many of the leading experts have suggested that ThinkFree isn’t quite ready to be a big dog among other similar services. Namely because it doesn’t offer a lot of the editing tools available on desktop programs like WordPerfect, and Microsoft Office. Another shortcoming is the fact that you cannot open more than one file at a time, when using the online browser version of ThinkFree Office. Others also warn that ThinkFree’s Java takes forever to load once you start it for the first time, however, once it’s worked through a few times, it gets faster.
What’s the concept?
An online office suite to simplify and combine basic word and office tasks to work on the browser.
Why should you care?
Because it can work inside the browser, it might mean clearing away some hard disk space of other software, if you prefer it over your other word processing or office programs.
How do they make money?
Selling the premium ThinkFree Office online membership, as well as the premium desktop software.
Will this company last 5 years?
Maybe, maybe not. They have a lot of work to do with their application before it’s going to be used by too many people. It’s just lacking a little polish.
Suggestions for improvements?
Study the needs of customers, and study the competitors.
